Preparing your home for Autumn
Summer has finally ended, the mornings are getting darker and the nights are longer, but there is something so comforting and delicious about the start of Autumn. At this time of year we still have all the wonderful delights of Autumn and Winter ahead of us and I still relish throwing on a few extra layers rather than lamenting the cold.
To welcome in the new season I have been doing a few things around my home to help me fully embrace it, so I wanted to share a what I have been doing to prepare my home for Autumn.
In these darker months I like nothing more than getting home, lighting a couple of candles and settling in for the evening. We don’t have a fireplace so this is nearest I can get to creating that lovely warm flicker. This week I decided to treat myself to some new candles from the Botanical Candle Co. who I have been eyeing up on Instagram for a while. They make handmade soy candles in beautiful unique vessels.
From the minute the package arrived I new they were going to be a new favourite of mine. Not only do they have the most wonderful scent but they come in such lovely pots that you’ll want to keep and reuse forever. They burn beautifully and unlike the “designer’ candles I have bought in the past they are fantastically good value for money. I would seriously suggest you check them out.
I’m looking forward to our next dinner party so I can have my new beeswax candles as the centre piece. They truly are stunning!

Bring out the blankets
Autumn is the time to bring out the blankets and rugs that have been stuffed away for Summer. Get rid of any musty smells by washing or dry cleaning them (if they’re fancy enough) so you can enjoy snuggling up in them. Last year I also discovered the scarf-blanket, incredibly versatile and great to have with you if you get caught in a chilly situation. My office seems to be unable to regulate the temperature often resulting in you freezing at your desk so the scarf-blanket has became an essential for both home and work.
Please excuse the unfinished chair!
Have a look at some of these lovely cosy blankets I’ve spied online:
A home always feels cosier when its lit by lamps from below rather than bright lights from above. At this time of year I make sure all my lamps have lovely warm bulbs in them to create a cosier feel. I often like to not turn on the main lights but just use smaller lights especially when settling in for a night of X Factor and other Autumn staples on the TV!
Here are few good lamp options for your home:
I hope you’re enjoying Autumn as much as I am! Let me know how you’re preparing your home for the season.
